FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Update on Wabush Airport Operations

Member of Parliament for Labrador, Philip Earle, is providing an update on the ongoing situation at Wabush Airport, where flights remain suspended due to technical challenges related to firefighting and aircraft crash rescue services.

“I continue to work closely on this matter and fully understand the significant impact this disruption is having on travellers, businesses, and residents who rely on this essential air link for health care, work, and personal travel,” said MP Earle. “Please know that your concerns are being heard and taken very seriously.”

MP Earle has been in direct contact with the Minister and departmental officials regarding the situation. Rest assured that this issue is a top priority for the Minister, the Minister’s staff, and for MP Earle.

The matter has now been escalated to the highest level within the department responsible for the operation of the Wabush Airport. A dedicated team is actively reviewing the circumstances surrounding the suspension of operations under Canadian Aviation Regulations (CARs) 705, which applies to larger aircraft. That review is taking place this morning, and MP Earle remains hopeful that a resolution will be reached soon.

Earlier advisories indicated that operations at Wabush Airport (CYWK) are currently suspended for operators governed by Canadian Aviation Regulations Part 705, which applies to aircraft with more than 19 seats. This is due to an operational issue involving the availability of firefighting services, including aircraft crash rescue response capability.

“While details remain limited, I am in regular contact with Transport Canada officials and local airport authorities to gather the most up-to-date information,” Earle added. “I appreciate everyone’s continued patience and understanding as we work to ensure that operations can resume safely and as quickly as possible.”
